Worcester Bosch boilers are one of the options CombiCert installs for homeowners in Telford and the surrounding area. We can assess the property, existing system and hot-water requirements before recommending a suitable boiler.
We also service and repair Worcester Bosch boilers, so this guide also covers the common fault codes, what you can safely check yourself and when a repair makes more sense than a new boiler.
Why consider a Worcester Bosch boiler?
Worcester Bosch offers combi, system and regular boilers for different property and heating-system requirements. The right choice depends on factors such as the number of bathrooms, available space, water pressure and the existing system, not simply the brand or headline output. If you are not sure which type suits your house, see How to Choose the Right Boiler for Your Telford Home.
Worcester Bosch boiler installation
CombiCert provides professional new boiler installation in Telford. We explain the available options, provide a clear quotation and complete the installation and commissioning as a Gas Safe registered business. We install Worcester Bosch boilers.
When the job is done, we fill in the Benchmark checklist and register the guarantee. Worcester’s terms say it must be registered within 30 days of installation. We also notify the job through Gas Safe Register, which sends you a Building Regulations compliance certificate. For typical prices, see our boiler installation cost guide.
We work on LPG as well as natural gas. If your home is off the mains gas network, ask us whether an LPG version of the boiler you are looking at is available.
Worcester Bosch fault codes and what they mean
When a Worcester boiler locks out, it shows a code. On many Greenstar models this is two characters and a number, such as EA 227. Some newer models show just the number. Codes differ between models, so check your manual. These meanings come from Worcester’s own manuals:
| Code | What Worcester says it means | Common causes |
|---|---|---|
| EA 227 | No flame detected after ignition | Gas supply off or low, frozen or blocked condensate pipe, blocked flue, or a fault with ignition parts or the gas valve |
| EA 229 | Flame lost while running | Gas supply, blocked condensate pipe or the flame sensor |
| A1 281 | Pump stuck or running dry | Low pressure, air in the system or a pump fault |
| E9 224 | Flue or high limit thermostat tripped | Poor circulation or an internal fault |

What you can safely check yourself
- Gas. Does the hob work? On a prepayment meter, check your credit and emergency credit. Some meters need a button pressing after a top-up to restore the supply.
- Power. Is the display on? Check the fused switch by the boiler and the fuse box.
- Timer and thermostat. Is the timer calling for heat, and is the thermostat set above room temperature? Wireless thermostats need working batteries.
- Pressure. Worcester’s user instructions for Greenstar models say the gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar when cold. If it is low and your manual shows how, top up with the filling loop and close the valves fully. If it keeps dropping, there is a leak or a fault.
- Condensate pipe. In freezing weather the plastic pipe outside can freeze and cause an EA fault. Worcester says only thaw it if it is at ground level and easy to reach, with warm water, never boiling, and never at height.
- Reset. Press reset once. If it locks out again, stop and book a repair.
What needs a Gas Safe engineer
Anything behind the casing: gas valve, electrodes, fan, pump, diverter valve, circuit board and flue. By law, gas work must be done by someone Gas Safe registered. If you smell gas, turn it off at the meter if you can, open windows and call 0800 111 999. For fault finding, see our boiler repair in Telford.
Servicing and your guarantee
After installation, regular boiler servicing can help maintain safe operation and meet the servicing conditions stated by the manufacturer. Worcester’s terms say the boiler must be serviced every year by a competent, qualified engineer and the service recorded.
A new Worcester Bosch boiler can come with an extended manufacturer guarantee. The length depends on the model and on the guarantee being registered, so check your guarantee certificate for your exact terms. If the boiler breaks down while under guarantee, contact Worcester Bosch first. Their terms say they will not pay for repairs by someone else unless agreed in writing beforehand.
Repair or replace?
We do not recommend a new boiler just because an old one has a fault. If it is under about ten years old, parts are available and it is a single fault, a repair usually makes sense. Replacement is worth considering when breakdowns keep happening, parts are hard to get, the repair would cost a large share of a new boiler, or the house has outgrown the boiler. We will tell you which we think it is and let you decide.
Worcester Bosch boiler questions
Which type of boiler is right for my property?
That depends on the property, hot-water demand and existing heating system. We assess these factors before recommending a combi, system or regular boiler.
Can I request a quote remotely?
Initial information and photographs can often be shared by phone or WhatsApp. We will explain if a site visit is needed before providing a firm quotation.
Do you install Worcester Bosch boilers?
Yes. A new Worcester Bosch boiler can come with an extended manufacturer guarantee. The length depends on the model and on the guarantee being registered.
What does EA 227 mean on my Worcester boiler?
The boiler tried to light and did not detect a flame, so it locked out for safety. Check the gas supply and, in cold weather, the condensate pipe, then reset once. If it comes back, call an engineer.
How often should a Worcester Bosch boiler be serviced?
Once a year. Worcester makes an annual service a condition of the guarantee.
