Heating older Broseley homes
Period properties often have thick solid walls, long pipe runs and boilers or cylinders tucked into awkward spaces. When we replace a boiler in an older house we look at the flue route, the condensate pipe run (which needs protecting from frost where it runs outside), the gas pipe size back to the meter and whether a combi or a system boiler with a hot water cylinder suits the house better. Our guide to combi vs system boilers explains the trade-offs, and choosing the right boiler covers sizing.
Older gas fires and open-flued appliances need a working chimney or flue and enough ventilation. We check these on every gas safety inspection and explain clearly if anything needs attention.
