Gas Engineer in Oakengates, Donnington and Priorslee

Oakengates, Donnington and Priorslee sit side by side on the north-east side of Telford, and all three grew up around the iron and coal industries. They are different places to work in: one has Victorian streets, one has wartime estates and one is mostly newer housing. This page covers all three, plus Muxton, in one place rather than three. CombiCert is Gas Safe registered (621146).

Oakengates

Oakengates is a historic market town, and Ketley Bank, Wombridge, Hollyhurst and Beveley are all districts of it. The Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton railway runs through, the Town Hall that opened in 1968 is now Telford Theatre, and Hartshill Park was made in the 1920s by levelling a coal mine spoil heap. Houses in the older streets have often had heating added or altered over the years, so we look at the flue route and pipework before any new boiler is quoted.

Donnington

Donnington Wood grew on coal, ironstone and ironworks, and the Central Ordnance Depot (now MOD Donnington) brought a second wave of housing. Between 1931 and 1937 the council built 118 houses, all but the first ten for people moving out of unfit homes in Donnington Wood and Lilleshall. Between 1940 and 1944 it built 844 more for the depot’s civilian staff, and it added 258 in the early 1950s. If your home is on one of those estates, tell us the make and age of the boiler when you call, because replacements over the years may differ from house to house.

Priorslee and Muxton

Priorslee is a large, mostly residential village. Priorslee Hall, an early 18th century brick mansion, is Grade II listed, and Stafford Park’s industrial and retail units are close by. Muxton grew with Telford: by 1975 a great many houses had been built there along Sutherland Drive and Fieldhouse Drive. The building figures on this page come from the Victoria County History (1985), so they describe how the area was built, not what is there today.

What we do across all three

Business and industrial premises

The area has a long working history and still has plenty of commercial buildings. Central Park business park in Oakengates stands on part of the former Priorslee Furnace Works and Eagle Iron Works. We service and repair commercial boilers and carry out gas safety checks and tightness tests for shops, cafés, workshops and units. The services are set out under light commercial gas services and, for larger buildings, commercial gas and plant rooms. Takeaway, pub and café kitchens are covered by our Gas Safe registration as well, including fitting and testing gas interlocks: see commercial kitchen gas safety.

Oakengates, Donnington and Priorslee FAQs

What is the difference between a boiler service and a landlord gas safety check?

A service looks after the boiler: it checks it is burning safely and picks up worn parts. A landlord gas safety check is a legal check of every gas appliance and flue you supply to tenants, with a written record. If you are not sure which one you need, call us and we will explain; the landlord gas safety certificates page has the detail.

Do you do gas safety checks for a small shop or workshop?

Yes. We carry out gas safety checks, tightness testing and commercial boiler servicing for small premises as well as larger ones. Send the address and a photo of the equipment, and we will tell you what is involved.

Is it worth replacing a boiler in an older house?

It depends on the fault, the boiler’s age and whether parts are available. We tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense. If it does not, we look at the house before suggesting a combi, system or regular boiler.

Which areas does this page cover?

Oakengates, Donnington, Priorslee and Muxton, which are all part of Telford, and the rest of the borough too (see gas engineer Telford). If you are not sure your address is covered, call us and we will confirm.
